Mike Murphy broke in his stride and running on the outside dry going took the lead at the half, which he retained to the end with something in reserve. Rinaldo II. steadily improved his position finishing fast in the worst going. Snark came with a rush on the outside in the final sixteenth. Handpress was badly ridden, messed about and repeatedly bumped in the stretch and anchored in the bog near the finish. Madam Bishop failed to stay after a good display of speed. Merwan got away badly and was in the heavy going throughout. Our Pride fell away in the .stretch run and was evidently short. Yellowstone can do better. Overweights Merwan, 4 pounds; Our Pride, 1. Cascine, favored by the going, got away running and indulged the early pacemaker to the stretch, where he drew to the front cantering. Bearcatcher, nearly left, was quickly sent into a contending position, always being in the deep going, finished very fast and might have won with an even break. Otto Stifel showed surprising good form, sustaining very gamely a superior burst of speed almost throughout. Ebony will make good at an early day, held on steadily throughout and was an easy and close up fourth. Captain Forsee ran away before the race and was practically left, trailed his field to the stretch where he made up ground fast. Judge was prominent to the stretch turn and a dangerous contender when he swerved under the whip in an effort to beat the winner. Cascine, show, out. Bearcatcher, show, out. Went to post at 3:02. At post 7 minutes. Start bad. Won handily; second driving. Pickaway went to the front at the start, won all the way and easily stood off Waterpower in the final drive. The latter was the only serious contender throughout and showed a lot of speed, turning for home in the deep going and put up a game stretch run. Alice Cary held a forward position from the start and was probably short, will do better and is a useful filly. Oscar Tolle trailed the leaders closely, tiring in the last furlong and swerving over to the inside and likes a fast track. Shellmount finished fast. Quiet got away badly and was never dangerous. Lacy Crawford a genuinely improved colt, held an outside position, and being in the best going steadily improved his position, coming with a rush right at the end and won going away. Silurian was a good horse badly handled and but for swerving all over the course might have won. Heather Honey was a prominent contender to the stretch, where she came through on the inside and was nearly anchored. Colonel Van forced the pace for seven furlongs before he was caught and crowded over to the inside and was unlucky to lose. Rosarie was a contender throughout, tiring only in the last sixteenth. Yellow Tail trailed the field on the outside to the turn for home, where he moved up like a flash and in a sensational stretch run passed the others as if anchored. The other contenders were all engaged in a bumping match in the stretch run. Hagerdon forced the pace from the start in the inside deep going and, swerving all over the track to the last furlong, finished out a game second after a remarkably good race. Ishtar ran a cracking good race and will soon make good Arabo ran lapped and hard held on Hagerdon to the stretch, where the latter, boring out, nearly knocked him down, losing him a half dozen lengths, after which he came again like a cyclone. Captivate finished in the worst going. Muresca ran a bad race and was beaten early. Overweights Yellow Tail, 1 pound. Yellow Tai, show, evens. Hagerdon, show, 1 to 3. Ishtar, show, 2 to 1. Dainty was crowded into the heavy going in the early running and, recovering from a bad mixup on the first turn, moved up again with a rush when turning for home and decisively outstayed the field in the final drive. Albula showed brilliant speed and stamina throughout arid ran a high-class race. Veterano, away badly and poorly handled, closed up like a cyclone in the stretch and finished running faster than the leaders. Horatius fell away in the early running. Bragg fell out of it completely on the far turn and, probably sulking, ran an inexplicably bad race. Dainty, sh ow, 1 to 3. Albula, show, evens. Veterano, show, 3 to 2. Bragg, show, 1 to 3.
