She went to the front with ease in the first furlong and raced under restraint until in the last sixteenth, where she came away from her field. Symphony was under a drive all of the last furlong, was tiring and just managed to last long enough to stall off a challenge from Ethel Scruggs. The latter finished fast on the inside and would have been second in another stride. Rachael Ward met with no mishaps and ran her race. Step Aside got caught in a jam soon after the start and Ahern pulled her up. Class kept climbing and sprawling for th6 entire trip. Throw her race out. It was not her true form. Ethics sulked in the first part of the trip, then went around his field with a rush while rounding the far turn and came away at his leisure in the stretch run. The Regent showed superior early speed and set a fast pace for the first six furlongs, but tired when Ethics caught him. Aladdin finished well and outgamed Captain Gaines in the final drive. Minder had the last-named under restraint for the first half, but his mount tired as if short and the race should do him good. Huzzah ran as if sure to improve over this race. Gregor K. was off well in motion, showed his usual burst of early speed and opened up a winning lead in the first quarter, but had to be hard ridden all of the last sixteenth to stall off Ben Chance. Munro waited with Ben Chance until after they had gone a half mile before making his move, then went around his field at the far turn and made a determined effort in the stretch run. Tioga raced along in second place in the early part of the race on sufferance. Captain Gaston was unprepared at the start and was outrun all the way. Frank Bell snowed speed throughout and finished gamely. Maltster ran to his best form. Monastic II. was crowded back in the last fifty yards and finished in between Frank Bell and Lady Free Knight, was on the outside of Frank Bell and Maltster for the entire trip and covered more ground than any of the first three. Cyprienne was outfooted in the first furlong and was never prominent. She runs her best races when in front. Lady Free Knight, show, 6 to 5. Frank Bell, show, out. Maltster, show, 1 to 3. Phillips got him off well in motion and took him back after getting to the front, allowed Zirl to race herself into exhaustion in setting, the pace, moved up while rounding the turn into the homestretch, where he cut the corner and saved ground, but had to be hustled along at the end to stall off Ivernia. The latter swerved over toward the inside rail and finished directly behind Dutch Carter. Pronta moved up fast while rounding the far turn, but tired when the stretch drive came. Alpaca dropped out of contention on the backstretch, but came fast in the last furlong. She swung very wide at the turn into the homestretch. McCafferty takes the long route with all his mounts. Zirl was eased up all of the last furlong and was probably short. Scratched 41917 Tony Lepping. 105. Dutch Carter, show, 2 to 1. Ivernia, show, evens. Pronta, show, 7 to 10. New Ycrk won as if he outclassed his field, wore Tommy Foster down while rounding the far turn and came away quickly in the final quarter and had a lot in reserve at the end. Scorpio finished well, but could never get to the front and will probably be improved by this race. Tommy Foster was off well in motion and showed a lot of early speed, but tired as if short. Annie Max was as good as left at the post and had no chance when the barrier went up. Scratched 429C92Past, 102. Scorpio, show, out. Tommy Foster, show, 2 to 1.
