Winner Br. g, by Preston-pans Loma trained by T. Boyle. Went to post at 2:12. At post 1 minute. Start straggling. Won driving; second easily. . Prestolus, lucky and skillfully handled throughout, trailed the leaders closely in the early running and made good with a game stretch run. Blessed Damozel, on the extreme outside, away badly and carried out on the turns, had a rough journey and finished on the extreme outside with a meteoric rush and just failed to get up. Achilles, reserved to the s stretch and always within hailing distance, outstayed the others in the final drive. Tono-pah forced the pace to the stretch, tiring in the stretch run. Autumn Time fell away early in the race and can do better. St. Wilda is probably a non-stayer. Rio Chico was palpably short and when good his form would give him a chance here. Miss Betty got away in her stride, but was unable to hold her position and was shuffled back on the turn, then turning for home on the extreme outside and finishing like a whirlwind, won going away fast. Effervescence, crowded back directly after the start, steadily improved her position, finished with a rush, ran a good race and should have won. Winifreda raced quickly into the lead from a rear position at the start and afterwards stood a long drive in the stretch. Libbie Candid, badly ridden and interfered with, ran a winning race. Red Cross Nurse finished out the last quarter fast. Flo Manola was a sharp contender until a furlong out. Miss May Bowdish is a slow beginner. Gottlieben went a fast half and will soon make good, got away poorly and showed superior speed. Gartaire was green, but was one of the best tried of Jennings fillies in the spring. Won in a canter; second easing up. Redwald broke in his stride and, being a quick beginner, stole away into a winning lead on the first turn, winning off by himself at the end. Plan might have won but for a slow beginning and a mixup on the first turn, ran a grand race, closing up a lot of ground and going great guns in the stretch, was eased up when hopeless of winning, is a wonder on a sloppy track and is very good at present. Constable held a forward position to the stretch, where he was pocketed and when he got clear sailing came fast in the last sixteenth. Tom Slavin showed surprising speed in the early running and for six furlongs appeared to be the only serious contender. Past Master, away poorly, raced a good six furlongs to get up into prominent contention, but failed to stay. Ulloa went well for six furlongs and was probably short. Honiton went out from the start to force the pace, which was phenomenally fast, easily withstood all challenges, coming away in a canter in the stretch run and is a great fillv over all distances. Iredeus was skillfully reserved, trailing close in behind the leaders tb the stretch, where he finished like a cyclone, but could never make the winner quicken her stride. Kenilworth broke running and held a brief lead, following the winner closely to the stretch, where he fell away, but showed sudden improvement and is about due. Venator, for a green one, displayed dazzling speed and ran lapped on Honiton for nearly five furlongs before he retired. He is a fast one that may develop into a crackerjack. Geheimniss found the pace too fast and could not keep up. It was a new record for the course. Overweights Venator, 2 pounds. Honiton, show, out. Iredeus, show, out. Kenilworth, show, 1 to 2. Winner Ch. m, by Brandywine Laura Keene trained by C. Pleasant. Went to post at 3:55. At post 5 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Aunt Polly received a lucky start and made the running throughout, running a fast and game race. Puss in Boots, interfered with in the first quarter, had a rough journey and turned for home on the extreme outside, finishing fast and was wearing the winner down at the end. Rey Dare, away very badly and pocketed and impeded for the first five furlongs, only got clear sailing when straightened for home and, closing up like a whirlwind on the extreme outside, just failed to get up. The Miller was so badly interfered with that he nearly fell on the backstretch and his race was a revelation. Handpress was always a contender. My Surprise raced up into second place after getting away very badly and held on well in the closing drive. Boutonniere was knocked out of it at the start. Maresa went a fast six furlongs. Dr. Bernays had a lucky start on the inside, got around the first turn in a good position, trailed the leader closely and made good in the stretch run, scoring a lucky victory. Caronal showed astonishing form. Nearly left ,he passed the field one by one as if anchored and, losing ground on the stretch turn, kept coming like a shot in the closing drive arid was much the best today. Expedient was always in close quarters on the insido and came from far back in the stretch run. Position, after trailing his field, made his usual fast three-! furlongs move to the wire. Illowaho fell away completely in the last quarter. Chub was not good enough. Dodie S. will do better over a longer distance, got away poorly and suffered much interference. Dr. Bernays, show, evens. Caronal, show, evens. Expedient, show, 4 to 5. Position, show, 4 to 5. Chub, show, 3 to 5.
