Burning Glass broke well when the start came, but was interfered with at the first turn. Callahan then took him up on the outside, wore the leaders down on the backstretch and outgamed Begone when it came to the final drive. The latter, as usual, began slowly, but closed a big gap, finished with a rush and was catching the winner at every stride. Jake Weber showed speed and set a fast pace, but tired in the stretch run. Felix Bard was outrun all the way. Our Nugget was used up in racing with the leaders in the first six furlongs. Pompino finished fast. Calcutta met with no mishaps and was off well, but tired after going a half. Scratched 13233 Count Em Out, 103; 43207 Royal Pirate, 92. Overweights Pompino, 3 pounds. Burning Glass, show, 4 to 1. Gin Spray made a show of his field, went to the front when Wilson was ready and opened Tip a winning lead in the run down the backstretch, was never in trouble at any stage and was eased up at the end. Jack Doyle ran a good race and finished well. Malay ran well throughout and outgamed The Bobby in the stretch drive. The latter seemed unable to extend himself and ran much below his form. Barbara Frietchie met with no mishaps, was tiring at the end and, under a hard drive all of the last furlong, just managed to last long enough to stall off Ivernia, The latter finished fast and would have been second in another stride. Homestead ran a good race. Boaster was cut off and interfered with a couple of times. Lou Woods was ridden all over the track. Scratched 43161. J. Mynheer finished resolutely and just lasted long enough to stall off Ethics. The latter was left at the post and closed a big gap, but tired after getting to the leaders. Satire broke from the extreme outside and Callahan had to whip him across the head to get over toward the inside rail and he tired after going six furlongs. The latter got away all tangled up, closed a big gap and, finishing fast, was catching the winner at every stride. Invincible showed speed, but just managed to last . long enough to get third money. Floyd K. dropped back at the turn out of the backstretch. Belle Mahone was on the outside of the leaders all the way. Boundling ran well to the stretch. Phillips waited with her until turning out of the backstretch before making his run, then wore Blueblaze down and came away with a rush in the stretch. St. Wood met with a lot of interference at the first turn and had to go around the field on the extreme outside to get up, closed a big gap and finished fast. Blueblaze was away well in motion and set a fast pace, but tired after going six furlongs. Alalia was crowded to the inside fence in the run around the first turn. Birdwood was carried to the outside soon after the start and was interfered with at the far turn when Hyams made his run. Mint Bed tired and could never get to the leaders. Scratched 13002 Pupil, 101. Overweights Arden, 1 pound. Commena, show. 6 to 5. St. Wood, show, 2 to 1. Blueblaze, show, 6 to 5.
