Little Jack Horner beat the barrier a length and was off running, raced Julia Junkin into submission in the first half and had enough left at the end to stall off Joe Goss. Joe Goss began slowly and closed a big gap, but tired slightly after getting to the leader. Travers saved ground at the turn into the homestretch, but tired in the last sixteenth. Mayor Johnson finished fast. Julia Junkin was not persevered with in the stretch run. The start gave the winner the race. Winner Ch. c, by Albert Montvale trained by R. Bauer. Went to post at 3:05. At post 2 minutes. Start poor. Won driving; second easily. Harmakis was easily the best and had to be to win with the ride he got. Pieratt rode him all over the track, rushed him up to the leaders in the run down the backstretch, came wide at the turn into the homestretch and swerved over to the inside at the sixteenth post and then toward the outside- in the last twenty yards and just managed to last long enough to stall off Exclamation. The latter was bumped into a couple of times at the start, had to be hustled along to get to the front and would probably have won with a stronger rider up. Dutiful was outrun all the way, was hard ridden all of the last quarter, came again at the end and finished resolutely. Overweights Harmakis, 1 pound; Spencerian, 3. Harmakis, show, 1 to 4. Mynheer was outfooted in the first half, but; wore Monograph down in the last furlong and finished fast. Monograph showed much early speed and set a fast .pace, but tired after going a half. The weight seemingly anchored Huzzah. He lOpked dry when going to the post and could never get into active contention. Mauser was sharply cut oft at the first turn. , JDe Reszke, show. out. I Stonewall was well ridden, kept back for the first seven furlongs and never made a fast 1 move until on the turn out of the backstretch, then went around the leaders on the out- I side when entering the homestretch and, outgaming Badger, was going away at the finish. I Badger ran well and saved ground at the turn into the homestretch, where he cut the corner closely, but was under a hard drive all of the last furlong. Gin Spray ran well throughout. Adelante came fast in the last furlong, but too late. Larry Wilt ran in improved form. Past went well for a mile. Start good. Won easily; second handily, i Inquisitive Girl ran in behind the leaders for the first half, then came to the outside at the turn into the homestretch, caught Duncan tiring, got up in the last fifty yards and was going away at the end. Duncan moved up fast while rounding the far turn, had his field beaten at the furlong post, but tired when it came to a drive. Arthur ran in improved form. He ran green and began slowly, but closed up with a rush in the stretch run. This one is worth remembering. Talhouet got away tangled up. J. P. Mayberry did not run his race. Nor did Aggie Lewis.
