Herman Johnson showed the most speed all the way and set a fast pace, but tired and was all out at the end to stall off the belated rush of Niblick. The latter appeared to be waiting on Quadrille and Hagan: did not hustle him in the stretch until in the last sixteenth, was best and should have won Quadrille was fairly speedy and apparently had Herman Johnson beaten when a furlong from home, but Btumbled and lost decisive ground. Broadway Girl ran fairly well. Singing Master finished gamely. Soprano was easily best, outbroke the others and won all the way as her rider pleased. Dairy Maid was crowded at the start and made up ground, but tired and was under a drive to stall off Sea Water at the end. The latter ran a good race, considering that she met with interference on the turns. Grumbling Soph showed improvement. Bush Hill was practically left at the post. Euripides was best, ran next to the rail where he could not bear out and, breaking fast, was never in danger and was eased up at the finish. Conde came very fast on the outside in the stretch and got up in the last stride to nose Castor out. The latter ran an unexpectedly good race, fought out the finish gamely and is worth remembering on a muddy track. Chalfonte had no mishaps and was a contender to the stretch, where ha quit. Diebold was outrun for the first three fu?longs, but closed up fast when straightened out-in -the stretch, caught the leaders tiring in the last hundred yards and won going away. Dankall was . much used in racing after Regal Lad and had nothing left to finish with, but held on gamely. Regal Lad" showed surprising speed, but was rushed along too fast and tired. Lady era is very fast under light weight and, after racing Mammymoo into retirement, went away from her opponents with a great rush and won in a canter. Belle of Jessamine got away none too well and made up ground while going down the backstretch, but the fast pace told on her and she was beaten when turning for home, yet held on well and held Anneta Lady safe. The latter did her best and had no mishaps.
