MR. CLYDES SMART STEEPLECHASER. The Bryn Maarr, Ia.. turfman whose tine si r Atbellng has sent many uoimI bar at a out to win fame over American tracks, has for Several yean past maintained a small stable of Jumpers in Kng- land. and it appeara that he has recently eeajnired one that lias :i good rhaace to bring his ambition to win the Hand National to fruition. Concerning this one a letter from "llegioscope" to the Thorough bred Record says: "Mr. Clyde, the popular American sportsman who owns, in Dathl and Cloiiard. two -mart BteeplerhBH- v- and in S.clani a good bardie racer, ha-- now got something better than any of the trio named, in Cinders, a five year old bay marc by llorizel II.. out of I inder Kllcn. She wins her races all the way. squandering the opposition by the terrific pace she set-, ju-t in the same way as was done by Deseii Chief a year age. Desert Chief, however, was only a two niter, nearly all his steeplechase victories being at that distance, whereas finders beat a good lot this week at Nottingham over three miles in her Usual runaway f i-hioii. the judges verdicl being "won by a distance. Among those behind her were such good ones as Aunt Mary. ExtravagaaCC and Ravcnscliff. and the last named waa second, with all the rest a long way behind. At Kcmptoii a fortnight . ago Aunt Mary which was third last March tor the Bread National, won by Aacettea Silver fit. second to Bene, to which she gave 21 pounds. u I ile to Dathl, which was u bad fourth, she gave , 12 | ounds. Vet when trying to concede 11 pounds , to Cinders, Aunt Mary was lv pelcssly out of it. and if Cinders slays 4 12 miles as well as she does . . ::. Mr. Clyde may not improbably win next ycar-fiand . National with her. Of course Hie Liverpool Ii Been are much more formidable than those Cinder-las negotiated in piling up her sequence of five con stcutive wins, and she is not aadte a faultle--juinper. but she made not the slightest mistake at j Nottingham and improves every time She runs. Her dam. Cinder Kllen. was a famous arcing mare i.i Australia and India, and had she aaanaaaad a trile !|i more size — she is only a shade under 14.2 — would jj have likely enough beaten Merman down under" ,.., _ instead of suffering defeat by half a head. As a two-year old her daughter. Cinders, showed capital Kj speed when running in the colors of Mr. J. Daly, her er __ bleeder, for sin ran second to Asiiendale in one race and won the Creer Dlate at Dhoeuix Part at ,lt l.er only othci appeal anee. Her dam is by Trenton, ,, out of Cinderella, by Javelin son of Yattendon. and luj in Cinders, therefore, we have one mere example uc of the worth of the St. Simon on Musket cross."
