RAIN CHANGES TRACK CONDITIONS. Fourth Race at New Orleans Is Declared Off — Five Favorites Win in the Mud. New Orleans, La.. January 2-" .— Rain fell here this morning, prixlm ing a i-omplete change in the condition of the track, which had been fast all of llio week. There were so many withdrawals from the fourth race, in consequence of Hie heavy going, that it was declared off. The mud. however, did not militate to the fortunes of the bookmakers, as so frequently hapitens when there is an unexpected change in the state of the track. Five of the first six choices won. Dele Strome in the closing race Ii ing the only successful outsider, and these favor ites all had hearty support. The coup of the day came with the victory of flamars. Jack Martin rode tke son of Sorcerer and his effort was so entirely different from that on Orly yesterday that the con-tiast was generously commented upon. The judges nave not reached a conclusion in their investigation of Mai tins poor ride on Orly. They are still probing deeply into the affair. It may eventually culminate in nothing more serious than a sharp warning to the rider, but tke present attitude of the officials suggests a sentence. it is understood that several other weird rides that Martin has put up here are being looked into, notably those cases where two year olds that have shown decided improvement under less experienced riders.
