SOME EXCITING FINISHES AT ASCOT. Edwin T. Fryers Nose Victory in the Handicap — Orilene Runs the Mile in 1:402. f.os Angeles. CaL, February 6. — Secretary Baden Offered a well balanced card today and the racing furnished tine sport. Orilene. running to her best form in the third race, defeated Mandarin after a sharp drive by a short margin and with Standover a close third. The time, 1:40J. clearly shows that the track is iu splendid condition just now. The finish in the fourth race was so close that none but the judges were iu a position to decide. Edwin T. Fryer, iu the buH stride, got his nose in front of bfoleeey, the well backed favorite, amid tumultous applause. The surprise of the day was the victory of Canopian over the fast mare La Gloria. Despite the short price jiosted against the Jones mare she had heavy support. After showing superior speed for live furlongs she began to tire and was beaten out by a short margin.
