In urging the establishment of a rich California Dl by, the San Francisco Chronicle «ays: "Trainers and owners want more weight forage races and not so many handicap stakes, ami they are right. The man who happens to own the best racehorse is entitled to some benefit. He should not la- at the mercy of any handieapper. especially in California, where so many good horses have bees beaten in the past by cheap selling platers. Handicap stakes are an absolute necessity, but there should be a fair proportion of weight for age races."
