NEWCOMERS AT AQUEDUCT. Two of the live two-year olds carded lo make-their Mist starts al Aipn-eluct today are the property of James K. Keene and were bred by him at Castle-ton Stud. They are Selectus, by Voter -Helltie-hl II.. and Se-poy. by St. Leonards Nautili iirl. Selectus is a half-brother to Mirabel. Hocus Pens, Gloria Mtuicii. Cheeraeasaer and Sangerbuml. Sepoy is the second foal of Naittc-h oil, but her tirst to race. Nautili 8M was bred by Mr. Keene and as a two year-old in 1S!I7 she carried his colors in one- race, ai Morris Dark, and WOa it. She was not laeeel a-- a three -yeat -old. but won three times out of eleven starts as a four year-old. This ended her career on the turf. She- was bri-d to Ben Brush in the spring of 1JOI and the following December was sent to England. No foal resulted from this mating and in BMW she was sent to the court of Merman in England and in IMS dropped a chestnut colt which was named Sea Seriient aud was brought to the tinted States at the foot of his daui in the fall of IMS, after she had been covered by St. lruseiuin. Again she was barren anil in BXM was mated with St. Leonards. Sepoy being the result. Sea Serpent died before his time to race-. Select, by Ethelbert— High Society, was bred by K. II. Barnes, ami she is a half-sisier to Britisher. The Lady in Blue. Artery and Wilson, the latter winner of twenty-eight races. 1 resh, by Previous -Wild Besa, was br I by W. I Knight at Nicholasville, Ky., and was sold to U. K. Knapp for SI.ihki. He is the second foal of his dam. but ber tirst to race. Her first foal was a brown Ally by On Deck, which was bought as a yearling and retired by the Breeders Protective Association at Lexington, Ky. Sylvia, G.. by Masetto— Java, was bred by A. Kussell Peabody. the New York lawyer and turfman, at E. S. Gardners Avondale Stud in Tennessee. and was solel as a yearling to A. L. Aste for SMB. She is a half-sister to Javauese. Palaver and Islander. Java was never raced. She is a half-sister to Janeiro, a winner, aud dam of Mamie. Ljuc.li. iier dum was the good English ajaaaj Judith.
