April St The entries to the stakes of the Ontario Jockey Club were given out today by Secretary W. P. Fraser. The lilieral policy which governs the premier racing association of Canada l»rs received striking indorsement in the ready response from horsemen from all parts of the continent of North America, particularly in the case of the rich Toronto Cap with its $.-..000 added. Its entry of forty si contains the names of the best lot of horses ever entered iu Canada ami which will hardly be surpassed except iu the best cmiiIs on the New York race courses. Canadian stables were never stronger than this pear and in Temmeraire. Tourenne. Inferno. Purslane. Main Chance. Resioration. dimmer and Sir Bdward possess material sufficient to provoke a. most spirited contest. When to this home aggregation of equine stars such horses are added as Lotus Baler, Peter Sterling, the Clyde entry. Minnie Adams. Montgomery the recent winner of Ihe Crescent City Derby, Kllicott, Oxford and Co Between, public enthusiasm must run high. The names of the majority of these horses will be found in the events for .: -year-olds and upwards. The Victoria and Tyro Stakes number sixty-three and fifty eight entries respectively, sufficient to provide capital sport iu the two-year-old stakes. A new feature in the Irince of Wales Handicap at six furloigs has a total of forty-nine, in which some of the best sprinters iu training have engagements. The two steeplechases, the Woodbine Steeplechase, to be run for the twenty-seventh time, and the Street Railway Steeplechase, have tilled es[M-cially well, with thirty-seven and forty-five entries, among which are candidates from the visiting stables of James W. Colt, Pierre Lorlllald. F. Cotrigan. William Cerst. G. IL Real, Seminole stable. C. T. Gardner and K. L. Talley. Lovers of .ross-country sport for which Toronto has ever been famous, will find plenty to interest them during the coming Woodbine meeting.
