T. S. MARTIN HAS HOST OF ADMIRERS. , ■ Garth Says He Is Americas Greatest Jump- i er — No More Waiting Orders. New York. June 1. -Since his victory over Good and Plenty in the Whitney Memorial at Belmont Part Dei oration Day. the devotees to stecpleehasing are with one accord proclaiming T. S. Martin the greatest tamper of the age in America. Billy Garth, who trains the horse for Paul J. lt.iiney, says that his orders to Jockey Dnpec caused the delcat of T. S. Martin in the Kmpire State Steeplechase. "I was afraid they were going to try and run my horse to death in the first mile of the Kmpire Stale and I told Dnpee to take him hack." said trainer Garth. "Those orders were fatal. If I had let Dnpee go about his business T. S. Marlin would have won the Empire Stale as easily as he won the Whitney Memorial. This is the greatest jumper I ever saw. He i-, the greatest jumper you Mr saw. He i the greatest jumper anybiwly ever saw. We will not wait with T. S. Martin hereafter. He will go out ami make pai-e in all his races. He never makes a mistake in the field and he can go as far as the next mans horse. " "Good ami Plenty simply was not good enough for T. S. Mai tin. Thomas Hitchcock said. "Nor does it seem that he can beat Mr. Kaineys horse weighted as he and T. S. MartJa were in the Whitney Memorial. He may li.wr heal him. T. S. Martin is a brilliant tamper ami a tireless runner. T. S. Martin is Virgina-bred. a pTOdnct of Cap tain B. .T. Hancocks famous BDemUe stud, in Albemarle county. He is a son id the Isonomy stallion Pathrrh!—, and Sand, a daughter of the immortal Kolus and Sans Souei. by Bonnie Scotland. Sancis second dam was Dew Drop, by Lexington. No wonder T. S. Martin stuck two iniies and a half in the Whitney Memorial. Thau his then is no stouter blood in the American Stud Book. He will stick three miles and a half in the Champion next fall if he is lucky enough M get to the p.pt in as good condition as he was in Thursday. T. S. Martin did his firsr racing two seasons back under the jacket of W. I.. Maupin the clerk of the county court of Albemarle, and a popular Virginian. He was named for the junior Inited States Senator from the old Dominion, the Hon. Thomas S. Martin, a big man in politics and a stanch supi orter of me-ing. Mr. Maupin sold T. S. Martin to C. C. Smith-son, of Washington, aliout a year ago and Mr. Smithson and Mr. Garth decided lo put him through the tield because he had become whimsical and unreliable as a flat runner. It was on the advice of Mr. Garth that Paul J. Rainey bought him. In the field T. S. Martin is in his element, lie takes as naturally lo jumping as any horse ever did. and he runs swiftly and willingly.
