CLEAR BUT COLD AT BLUE BONNETS. Butwell Wins the Steeplechase from Centipede — Small Fields but Good Sport. Montreal, Que., June ML — Today, for the first time since tin- meeting at Blue Bonnets began. the laces were ran under clear .skies. The weather, however, was chilly. lilustry winds ldew down from Mount Royal and across the infield into the grandstand, I in- going was still heavy te spots in the homestretch. I here was nothing attractive about the card, a majority of the races were framed to suit the poorer class id horses. The sport, however, was good, due largely to the fact thai tbe fields were evenly balanced. The- Steeplechase, Which barred horses that bad won more than one race-. pioed a stirring conlcst. Only three- went to the |hisI and for two of the two and a half miles they ran in cdose order, with ButweU always in front. After the seventeenth jump Bodrock brought Centipede up and made a Icold challenge for first money. He steadily wore down l.ulwell and got to within a length of him when taking the last jump, but on the Hat he was unable to improve his position and Butwell beat him out. Boll Weevil made it three straight by cantering away with the fifth race. In this race Daisy Shine I. ad. lit ne. and Lady Fouell were backed as good things. Dog Base was the first winner of the meeting for J. F. Madden. Dog Rose showed superior speed and made a runaway race of the sixth. A in.ijotily of the horsemen here will ship to Windsor. A few will go to Ivenilworth, but tbe reports of an sverhsw of horses at the Buffalo Hack have scared many into changing their plans.
