DR. GARDNER IS GETTING READY. New York. June 11. — Dr. Gardner Is getting sharp work at Gravesend these days. The horse got an ugly stonehruise at Gravesend a few days ahead of the Metropolitan Handicap, which not only prevented his starting in that race in the room of Boseben, which is not especially good in muddy going, but kept him away from the l.niokl.vn. Today he was gallop.il seven-eighths of a mile in 1:31. He has all his speed again and the Gravesend course is a favorite of his or any horse built on his short coupled rapid going lines. Dr. Gardner is in the Suburban Handicap with 122 pounds, including four pounds penally for winning the Ex-celsjor Handicap, but is not likely to go in it, though he is certain to raee at the Coney Island Jockey Club meeting. P.esides the Suburban Dr. Gardner is In the Coney Island. Sheepshead Bay, Commonwealth and Bay Bulge Handicaps and the Kqualiry and Advance Slakes. The Cominouwealih, which is run July 1. will about catch liim. The distance of the Commonwealth is one mile and a quarter. The weights are not due until July 22, two days after the running of the Suburban.
