The latter closed a big iap, finished witli a rush and might have won witli better early luck. Arabo showed speed, but tired .it tlie end. Waterbury quit badly. Won easily: second driving; third the same. Frank Gill showed marked improvement, was kept in a good position in the early running and came away with a rush in the stretch. The going had become soft by the time this race was run and that probably helped the winner. Montgomery ran his usual honest race, began slowly, but moved up steadily and came very fast through the stretch. Salvldere ran a brilliant race for a first effort this year. He actually raced Peter Pan into defeat and showed in front when a quarter mile from home, but tired in the final strides. Philander closed up rapidly in the stretch. Peter Pan made the race a hot one, but tired under his big impost when hard driven. Electioneer, fractions at the post, did not run his race and will do niilv in small fields.
