EL CUCHILLO REPORTED TO HAVE DIED New York April 14 J Howard Lewis Jr re ¬ ceived word yesterday from Joseph E Wldener who is now at Matrons Lafitte stating that El Cuchlllo the steeplechaser which Mr Wldener nominated for the Grand Steeplechase of Psiris last fall is dead The sixyearold full brother to Coligny was sent abroad in charge of a stableman February 29 and was received in France by Wallace Davis who had agreed to train him for Mr Widener No information relating the cause of death was given in the cable dispatch and it is expected that Mr Widener will shortly return to this country lie will probably return in time to see Coligny and John M P carry his colon in the Whitney Memorial and Grand National Steeplechases at Belmont Park next month monthMr Mr Wldener bought El Cnchillo In the fall of 1905 from K Parks of Cincinnati for 1200 The following year El Cuchlllo started in four races through the field but did not win a race In 1905 he won all throe of his races the Emnire State Steeplechase Handicap the Greater New York Steeplechase and the Saratoga Steeplechase During his four years on the turf El Cnchillo made seven ¬ teen starts six of which he won and was only three times unplaced His total money earnings wor
