SHIELDS ENVIABLE DAY AT PIMLICO TRACK Captures Races with Al Busch and Rcidmooro Gentlemen Jockeys Ride Skillfully Baltimore Md April 25 Goldllcur an added starter carrying 155 pounds and ridden by Savage proved an easy winner of the Sreeii Spring Valley Steeplechase one of the features Of an excellent card which the Maryland Jockey Club provided for patrons of Iinilico this afternoon The crowd ex ceedcd that of the opening day the attendance being the largest of the meeting Besides the steeplechase a race which called for gentlemen riders was also carded and this proved the best contest of the after ¬ noon the first five horses passing the judges beads and necks apart The winner turned up In the odds on favorite Fancy Bird which just succeeded in getting up lu time to nose Klo Grande out The latter was ridden by Mr Dion Kerr who purchased the horse yesterday of A L Matthews Ki Grande would probably have won but for being carried wide on the turn into the homestretch where he lost a couple of lengths lengthsFollowing Following is the history of the Green Spring Val ¬ ley Steeplechase Year Horse A Wt Jockev Val Time Time1JMI7 1JMI7 Dr Keith 1 115 Archibald 725 41U 41U11MIS 11MIS Goldllcur 155 Savije 805 120 120Three Three favorites won and two of them were at very short prices A majority of the races furnished keen contests and the close finishes aroused much enthusi ¬ asm asmWilliam William Shields sent two winners to the post in thi twoyearold Al Busch which won the opening race and Kcidmoore which captured the second Both of these horses carried Shields colors and young Bergen had the mount on the lirst named Hak owner of Kemp Kidgrley and other good jumpers arrived from Louisville this morning Kemp KIdgeley will be shipped from here to Bel inout Park at be conclusion of the present meeting where he will gel his final preparation for the Grand National Steeplechase Krnest Ileider will have the mount on the horse in that race raceMaurice Maurice Welsh received several additions to hs string today his brother Tom shipping ovi r from New York the threeyearold Aphrodite and three two yearolds yearoldsJockey Jockey SatTcI who had the mount on Lizzie Flat which fell in the steeplechase escaped with a shaking up Robert Walden lias announced that Ife will send four twoyearolds to the post In the Clabaugli Memorial which will be run on Friday next Ox ¬ ford Belle will represent Miss Tiielma Littlclicld Indian Hunter and Conflict Mrs Waldeu and Cun ¬ ning the Barbarity Stable Alfred Hennen Morris will come on from New Orleans to see the latter run in this stake stakeJames James McLaughlins Personal and Campaigner ar ¬ rived from New York this morning All the horses which McLaughlin is racing here will bo shipped to Canada at the conclusion of the present meeting meetingSteeplechase Steeplechase jockey Bernliardt was operated on the other day and will be in condition again to ride in a few weeks About three years ago Bernliardt broke one of his arms and the Iwnes were tied together by a piece of wire During the Beiming meeting Bernliardt had a fall and the wire which kept the bone in place became broken
