FAVORITES HAVE A DAY AT PIMLICO Cldments Defeats Cock Sure in One of tho Best Finishes of the Meeting Baltimore Mil May S The Jockey Club purse the feature of the program offered by the Maryland Jockey Club this afternoon proved one of the best contests ever run over tho famous old Pimlico course tiie finish resolving itself into a duel between Clements and Cock Sure in which the former was first home by a nose Clements was an oddson favorite and was ridden by McCahcy He had his work cut out from the rise of the barrier Kcmptoii carried him along at a fast pace for the first mile and when hi retired Murphy brought Cock Sure up and from the halfmile ost to the finish these two raced like a team When entering the homestretch it seemed that Cock Sure was a certain winner Clements was on In inside next lie rail and at Ihe sixteenth post where Cock Sure began to tire the favorite commenced to gain on him It was a tight fit at the end and the judges decision in giving the race to Clements met with general approval It was Clements fourth start at the meeting and incidentally his fourth straight victory victoryTIc TIc going was still deep and holding and the time made in the different races was slow Four favor ¬ ites bettingHie won and three at oddson in the betting Hie attendance showed a decided improvement and speculation was brisk briskJohn John Dillon showed a fine performance in the steeplechase which he won with ridiculous ease lie was ridden by Holder and outjuuipcd and outran iiis opponents all tin way In the stretch run Holder had him under stout restraint easing him up to a trot at the finish finishGeorge George Miller shipped the horses he has been racing here to XIMV York tonight In the band was Ihe greatly improved Sugar Pine PineSeveral Several stables will ship to Philadelphia next week to take part in the threedav meeting of the limit club which will be held on May I 21 and 2 2John John Shannon was among the visitors iiere this afternoon He came on from Lexington and left for Xow York tonight
