BARNEY SCHREIBERS FIRST RACE HORSE Old Pennyroyal Now Dead Won Thirtytwo Races During a Busy Career Barney Schreibor began his horse owning with that fast old selling plater Pennyroyal now dead but whose memory the Dutchman still holds dear In a recent letter Schreiber writes Pennyroyal was the first horse T ever owned in my life of any class I bought her in February 1812 from Kjjgene Loigh at the Giittenborg race track for 800 There are lots of people that always claimed that Grafion was the first horse I ever owned The second liorsc I purchased was a horse called Montclalr and Graf ton was the third liorse that I owned but of course all thesft are dead now Pennyroyal and Grafton Ixith died at my plawj about five years ago The only foal I had out of Pennyroyal is a filly which 1 am breeding now called Royals Last Slie Is by Sain out of Pennyroyal She had a filly spring by Balgowan BalgowanPennyroyal Pennyroyal was not a success In the stud She produced to Morello First Born Balgowan Ulmj Service Metz Sain Fronto and Royals Last The best of her progeny was Ulm by Morello a fair race horse There was a touch of the sentiment Schreil er Inire the old marc In the name Royals Last which he mentions In Iiis letter letterPennyroyal Pennyroyal was on the turf five years and thougii erratic was fast and n good winner The figures of lier racing career are tabled below Pennyroyal b m 1888 by Powhattan Desolation Year Age Sts 1st 2d 3d Unp Amt 1800 2 2ISOt 1C 6 1 1 8 1200 1200ISOt ISOt 3 25 2 4 3 17 1100 1892 4 41S3 52 15 12 11 14 5420 1S3 5 12 3920 1894 G 4 5H5
