NO EXTENSION OF MONTREALS MEETING Directors Canvass the Matter and Decide to Close Saturday Despite Urging to the Contrary Montreal line June 17 At a meeting of the executive committee of the Montreal Jockey Club held tills morning it was decided not to extend the present session of racing at Klne Bonnets and that the meeting would come to a close as advertised on Saturday next This was done In the face of the handsome profits which would accrue to the stock ¬ holders but it was deemed best for the sport that there should be no extension It is the general opinion that a longer meeting than two weeks will hi given next fall Many of the horsemen racing here have already gone on record that they will not ship to Klne Konnets in the future for a two weeks meeting The next shipment from here is to Wind ¬ sor which means a 000 mile jump unite an item for the class of owners who raee on this circuit circuitTodays Todays racts were run over a track that was probably faster than on any previous day of tin meeting The fields were evenly balanced and good sport resulted Favorites won four of the races while Thetis which beat Lilypad in the first race was a wellbacked second choice All the win ¬ ners were well supported and the nineteen books that cut in quit loser on the afternoon afternoonBoth Both of the twoyearold maiden races furnished stirring finishes Thetis scored a linky win in tin first race an inside post position and a hustling ride by Shilling being mainly responsible for the victory For some unexplainable reason there was a disposition shown to keep away fioni Malizano in the steeplechase and the latter was a receding fav ¬ orite The stewards had a session with Grant land before the horses went to post and the latter put up a stirring ride Manzano led for most of the trip and at the finish beat out the heavily backed Kallycastlc by three lengths lengthsJockey Jockey Grant who had the mount on Fireliy which fell at the ninth jump had one of his legs broken just below the knee kneeWoods Woods Garth disposed of Thetis after she won the opening event David Duiilop was the purchaser and the price paid was 1500 1500Frank Frank ONeill returned from New York this 1110111 ing and brought with him Dennis Stafford Lajeu nesse and High Hat HatJockey Jockey Shilling rode three winners during the af ¬ ternoon ternoonA A majority of the stables racing here will ship direct to Windsor for the four weeks meeting to be given commencing June 27
