NOW READY FOR RACING AT FORT ERIE Buffalo N Y July 21 Racing begins at Fort Erie next Monday and will continue for thirty days The track Is ready Visitors to the plant this year will scarcely recognize it The new owners took it over practically untouched since its creation in 1S97 and wonders have been worked Easily 50000 has been spent in iriiprovements and it is understood that the management contemplates still further outlays of cqiial magnitude Weeks ago the work of renovation was started by Billy Myer and Is now being completed by superintendent Kee gan late of Latonia New fences have been built for the track and park boundaries walks have been torn up and relaid The old bar under the grand ¬ stand has been torn out and a modern circular bar all open has been installed The entire floor under the stand has been cemented and a covered cement walk laid from the stand to the paddock The lawn in front of lie stand has been raised and cemented and now slopes to the track fence from a livefoot elevation affording a fine view of the course to all Now judges and timers stands have been built and new stairways put up for the stand The approaches to the stand are now cov ¬ ered The paddock has been entirely reconstructed and the club offices and jockeys room changed and improved Great work lias also been done on the stables and on the track proper which has been resurfaced and worked tiledrained and otherwise Improved The plant formerly in green and yellow has been repainted red and white and everywhere the hand of the Improver shows showsThis This year the management expects to make some ¬ thing of the clubhouse of the Fort Erie Jockey Club a pretty little building adjacent to the grand ¬ stand The florists have charge of the decorations of the lawns there New furniture has been In ¬ stalled and the management of the place put In the hands of Robert C Palmer a young Buffalo law ¬ yer and an executive committee composed of lead ¬ ing Buffalo and Canadian gentlemen Mr Palmer is the man who built the Kenllworth Jockey Club organization up so well last summer and he has been given a free hand by the Fort Erie manage ¬ ment mentA A tremendous crush of horses is expected for the meeting Already stable room inside the grounds is at a premium and farmers In the vicinity have built extra stalls and tilled them quickly The betting ring for the lirst time In years will be open to all reputable bookmakers bookmakersThe The Canadian Derby with which feature the meeting will open on July 27 lias such cligibles as Dr Mathews Dennis Stafford Johnnie Blake Law ¬ rence P Daley Shindy Uncle Toby Pinkola Mil ford Keep Moving Uncle Meelick Inspector Purvis Throckmorton Jubilee Juggins Clell Turney Mo quette and others giving every promise of being one of the big threeyearold races of the year The program book for the first twelve days has been issued and is being distributed
