FULL TEXT OF THE LOCKE LAW In response t several requests the Locke bill which has recently gone into effect in Louisiana is given in full below Act No 57 House Bill No 90 by Mr LockeM An Act to prohibit gambling on horse rjices by the operation of betting books French mutuels pooling devices auction pools or any other devices and to provide penalties for the violation of the provis ¬ ions thereof Bo it enacted by the general assembly of the state of Louisiana That any person who as agent owner officer or employe shall in any room hall house or any inclosure or upon any track path road or course whether within or without an in clqsure in this state engage in encouraging pro ¬ moting aiding or assisting in the operation of a betting book or a French inutuel pooling device upon any kind of horse race or races or in selling auction pools upon any horse race which are here ¬ by declared to be gambling or shall by any other device encourage promote aid or assist any per ¬ son or persons to bet or wager upon a horse race or races running or trotted or paced within this state or elsewhere shall be guilty of a misde ¬ meanor and npou conviction shall be fined not less than 100 nor more than 5500 arid Imprisoned for a period of not less than six nor more than twelve months
