TOUCHING RECEPTION TO STEPHEN SANFORD Saratoga N Y August 1 An incident possible only In Saratoga where every one In the club knows every one else occurred lust before the opening race last Thursday when the venerable Stephen Sanford of Amsterdam climbed slowly up the steps to his box With one accord the occupants of the club ¬ house boxes rose to their feet the men removed their hats and the ladies softly clapped their well gloved hands It was a pretty tribute to the veteran lover of the sport who has been so stanch a friend and lover of the thoroughbred and who represents what might be called the Saratoga Idea of racing for the sports sake with no thought of protlt Mr Sarifpril was completely overcome by this unexpected welcome and when friends crowded around his box to greet him It was some moments before be could reply
