DR GARDNER WILL NOT RACE AGAIN Dr Gardner the fiveyearold son of Bannpckburn Uarda for which Timothy D Sullivan and Frank J Farrell paid 13000 to Barney Schreiber two years ago will probably never race again Dr Gardner broke down boneles ly In the fifth race at Empire City Monday and will probably be sent to cue of the breeding establishments in Kentucky After winning the Excelsior Handicap at Jamaica last year Dr Gardner went lame Trainer Frank D Weir tried to patch him up but the horse did not icspond ti heroic treatment and was finally turned out He appeared to be sound this spring but Weir decided not to take any chances with him so refrained from doing anything with the son of Bannockburn until recently The horse had been nerved and several week ago Weir put him under a novel treatment He took him to the Coney Island creek and let him have a dally swim The horse appeared to thrive under this treatment and looked so fit and well that Weir decided to make an experiment Monday Dr Gardner was entered in two races the second and the fifth He was scratched out of the second and immediately the friends of Farrell and Weir besieged them with questions as to the horses fitness for the fifth event The reply was the same to all that Dr Gardner had not been worked at all that he might go out and win and also that he might break down in the race which he did didThe The record of Dr Gardners turf winnings during the four seasons he has raced are Dr Gardner b h 1903 by Bannockburn Uarda Year Age Sts 1st 2d 3d Uiip W 1905 2 15 9 o 190G 3 16 10 11 4 10400 1907 4 13 4 5 11670 11670190S 190S 5 1 0 0 0 1 Totals 4 i
