OWNERS FLOCKING TO CALIFORNIA San Francisco Cal September 19 President Thomas H Williams of the New California Jockey Club delayed his departure for the east and will not get away until tomorrow lie spent yesterday afternoon at the Oakland track in company with Secretary Treat and superintendent Grant inspect ¬ ing the improvements that have been made Mr Williams expressed himself as helng well pleased with what has been done ami called special atten ¬ tion to the additions that will provide better ac ¬ commodations for patrons Mr Williams will leave for Chicago and New York tomorrow morning He will meet turfmen while in the east and interest them in the approaching season seasonHorace Horace Kgbert who officiated as handicapper of the New California Jockey Club until severe Ill ¬ ness incapacitated him from attending to his duties was out for the first time in many months lie has been confined to his Oakland home but is so much improved that lie can take daily outings and his complete recovery is looked for within the next two months Mr Kgbert plans to be in attendance for tlie season at Oakland OaklandJ J II Siiratt has returned from Biitte and taken up Ocean Shore and Smiling Jack both of which were turned out near here during the summer Ocean Shore is not an easy colt to get ready and Sprat t fears that it will bo well into December before he faces the harrier Jockey Groth an ap ¬ prentice rider who showed promising form at Butte is under contract to Spratt and will be seen in the saddle here during this winter his employer having turned down a tempting offer for the temporary transfer of the boys contract to a horseman who will campaign a stable at Arcadia ArcadiaSeveral Several carloads of Iiorses arrived at tlie Emery villc track yesterday from northern points includ ¬ ing the Fleur de Lis Stable James Neil Maple Stable M J Hayes and William Hawke strings Trainer Buxton of the Fleur de LIs Stable brought Bellmcnce Sugarmald Karly Tide Fantastic Marion Kosc Prestige and Alice Cary The Maple Stable was represented by St Francis Miss Rillle and Iturning Bush St Francis showed poor form at Seattle until toward the close of the season and trainer Freters looks for him to be a better horse here when the mud arrives Miss Hillie will be pointed for tlie long distance events eventsM M J Hayes brought hack only Listowel and Johnny Lyons Listowel was the chief mainstay of tlie Hayes stable after Johnny Lyons went wrong in the early part of the meeting at The Meadows It is extremely doubtful if Johnny Lyons ever faces the harrier again the leg that went back on him being in very bad shape His owner figures that attempting to train him is out of the question for at least a year lie will be retired to the stud If his injury results in the permanent disability that his owner fears If Listowel shows his Seattle form here he will help to fill the void In the Hayes stable created bv Johnny Lyons retirement retirementG G Boyil with Toby and Jack Green with PhillN tina and Semper Fidelis were arrivals from Seattle yesterday by steamer The Iiorses stood tlie sea voyage well and landed In good condition conditionWilliam William Hawkesstring just in from Buttc con ¬ sists of Northwest Iinikim Diiume Cigarllghter Jretchen G Spring Ban Legatee and Aunt Kit The last named is a twoyearold filly that showed good form at the Montana track after Ilawke claimed her out of a selling race Plmkim was in very good form at Butte and Hawke declares that he should have won all his starts there The Hawke stalde will be augmented within a few days by Good Cheer a mure that has been turned out during the summer in California
