GOOD BEGINNING AT HAMILTON HAMILTONA A Great Attendance Heavy Speculation and Well Contested Racing Mark the Day Hamilton Out September 29 The fall meeting of the Hamilton Jockey Club began today under conditions that augur well for its success The attendance was large speculation brisk and a ma ¬ jority of the races keenly contested Favorites won three of tliem while two of the others went to the second choices choicesIn In the Prince of Wales Handieap Joseph E Sea ¬ grams handsome Kinley Mack filly Bouquet picked up top weight and won in a canter In the early running The Clown and Colonel Jack ran iu close company setting a fast pace until straightened out for tlie stretch run where llusgrave brought Bouquet nn with a rush that soon iplaced her in command When once in front Bouquet was again taken under restraint and at tlie end Hue was fighting for her head Colonel Jack made a desperate attempt but the winner always held him at her merer mererBannell Bannell started out like the winner in the steeple ¬ chase She fenced none too well but showed the most speed and led her opponents until after taking the fifteenth jump where Prince of Pilscn made his effort He caught and passed Bannell in going to the sixteenth Jump and for tlie remainder of tin trip it was simply a case of his standing up Only one of the nine starters came to grief George Leiper unseating his rider at the fourteenth fence fenceTlie Tlie race over the turf course resulted in a driv ¬ ing finish between Miss Catesby and Ueidmoore tiie former coming from behind with a rush and get ¬ ting up in the last fifty yards to win going away Musgrave rode an overconfident race on Keldmoore King Cobalt which came here from New York with a great reputation as a sprinter nroUly made good by winning tlie opening dash from a baud of speedy horses It was his first victory since wining to Can ada He was heavily supported in Itoth his starts at Woodbine Park but be cuppy going there evi ¬ dently did not suit his action as lie failed to win winJockey Jockey Ott who had been riding at tin Jamestown meeting arrived this moruinR Jockey Dcvericli who rode the winner in the last race today left tonight for Louisville where be gpQS to ride for J W May and rrcd Luzader Dcvericb is probably the best apprentice that has been riding ou the northern circuit this summer Go Between was a starter in luc nrst race making his first appearance with colors up Bingo Phil Chinu purchased him of John Shields at Los Angeles last winter Go Between made a Reason In the stud at his owners farm in Kentucky this spring where lie was mated with fifteen nuires Bodily Go Between appears iu good condition and Obinn hfiH great hopes of getting the horse back to his oldtime form formStarter Starter Dade saved much time at the post in the fifth race when lie sent the field away with Preten ¬ sion breaking from behind and got a good start Pretension refused to Hue up with hifi opponents at the barrier aud was placed on the schooling list listJoseph Joseph A Murphy arrived from St Louis this morning and officiated iu the stand as presiding presidingTho Tho condition books of the Baltimore and Dallas meetings were distributed among turfmen today and a majority of those racing here will be equally di ¬ vided between the two points
