Veil set a terrific pace to the last quarter, then withstood Lens game challenge without wavering, but Shilling grew careless in the closing strides and had to hustle her out to stand off Lens last seveiity-fivQ-yards rally. Tlie latter ran in persistent pursuit of the winner throughout, faltered for an instant when a sixteenth out. then swung quickly to the rail and finished fast with a renewed effort under keen urging. Itotanist withstood the pace for five and a half furlongs, then gradually fell away Into a distant third. Redondo went well for a half mile. Uncle Walter, always close up. shook off Boid in the stretch and appeared the winner, but faltered in the closing strides. La Heine Hindoo, in a long stretch drive, tired in the final seventy-live yards. Bold set the early pace and fell away fast when an eighth out. Royal Stone ran well to the stretch and tired. Almena ran disappointingly. Helen Harvey rail away five furlongs at full speed while on her way to the post. Tlie winner was entered for 00: no bid. Glorio, outpaced to the stretch, came fast in the final sixteenth and finished gamely under tlie whip. Colloquy displayed dazzling speed for five furlongs, but faltered in the last seventy-live yards under punishment. Hasty Agnes finished fast. Julia Powel ran a fast middle quarter. Czar was the victim of an Ill-judged ride, making his move too suddenlv when well into the backstieteh, anil, taking the lead, swung to tlie rail when turning for home and stood a long drive witli rare gameness. Gowan, off flying, displayed great speed for seven furlongs, then gradually fell away into a distant third. Vox Populi was knocked off his stride when opposite the stand and had little chance thereafter, but he bumped into Husky and he into Magazine, destroying the chances of tlie three. The latter is good and. in a sharp drive next to tlie rail, finished resolutely. Xattle Bumppo. on the outside of the others when entering the stretch, came fast in the final sixteenth and finished gamely. Anipedo set the pace fast and tired palpably in the final sixteenth. First Peep finished with a rush. The winner, entered for 00, was bid up to ,100 and bought by C. Healey. Scratched 78S50 Chippewa. 104.
