Transmute is improving, set the early pace and held on, unexpectedly gamely for third place. Celeres, badly outrun for the first half, finished well. The Englishman, flatfooted at the start, closed a moderate gap in the last half. Brian Boru finished well up. Madman set a terrific pace to the stretch and quit badly, but was in the inside bad going throughout. Tom Hayward, away slowly, closed tip rapidly at the end into a fast going fourth and is ready. Ocean Queen moved up fast In the middle quarter and was easing up In the stretch. Sir John, nearly left, closed a big gap and Is promising. Scratched 78830 Del Cruzador, 110. Milford, away poorly, trailed for a half and closed an immense gap in the last half into a fast going second. Firestone drew out quickly and made the early running under a pull and, readily relinquishing the lead to Dorante on the far turn, held on persistently afterwards Into a game third. Legatee ran forwardly throughout and is extra good. Montgomery, away poorly, made a fast effort in the middle running and was anchored finally in the inside bad going. Don Enrique, after excessive early use. dropped out quickly. Royal Tourist ran prominently early, but tired badly in the going. Nadzu was in deep going all the way. Scratched 78S2SsClamor, 98.
