WALDO TAKES THE SPECIAL SWEEP, OFF POORLY, BARELY BEATS HER- KIMER, THE ONLY REMAINING STARTER. Field Mouse Wins the Delaware Handicap for August Belmont Bellwether Scores Over Good Opposition at First Asking: in Bedwell Colors. Saratoga, X. Y.. August 7. The Saratoga Special, for two-year-olds, one of the greatest sporting events of the American turf, was decided here today. Aside from the runny and uncertain going, conditions were perfect, anil the occasion was notable liy reason oi tlie large number of fashionable iiersons present. Baliacallu won by a narrow margin from Waterway, whose showing materially strengthened the general opinion that he is a genuine crack through the Held. Reginald was left at the post, a rare happening in races of this sort. August Belmonts -Field Mouse defeated a quintette, of opponents In the Delaware. Arondack, the runner-up. was seriously interfered with by the winner while making the turn into the stretch. The ini .peding was so palpable and the consequences so costly that all close observers expected a claim of foul, but nothing of the kind developed.
