1 AMERICAN RtNNBNG RECORDS TO DATE The racing of 1900 was productive of seven new American records at distances ranging from three and a half furlongs to two miles and two already existing were equaled The most Important new record was establitIed when Fitz Herbert ran two miles in the Bowie Stakes at Pimlico In 323if thereby effacing Judge Dennys record jf 3121 which bad stood since February 5 ISJS To Fitz Herbert also fell the distinction of a ncwMKwU U a mile and liveeighths when he won the Lawrence Realization at Sheeps inil Bay July 13 Jnnil lie distance in 245 removed Africanders previous mark of 245 nade in the same r At the shorter distances A J Small and Donau each ran three and a tulf furlongs at Sn rly in the year in 40 and Donau covered a half mile in 415A Cannisa had Meviously held thei 4 7f at three and a half furlongs and Bessie Macken the half mile record of 8 At Louisvil oe Morris eclipsed Old Englands record of J53 for four and a half furlongs running the dis6 if At Fort Erie August 28 Gretna Green set a new record at a mile and a teenth substitute for Rdyal Tourists previous record of 144 At the seldomrun distance of nile and seven igna at Oakland March 2 wiped out Julius Caesars 319 aiid gained the dit of traversin ice in 317 Xo other new records were made but Prince Ahmed equaled pultepecs thrci 1T11 and both Crania and Ida May tied
