ALBERT DIES IK KENTUCKY Louisville Ky January 12 Alfcert one of Amer ¬ icas notable stallions Is dead at the age of 28 years When 13 years old he was purchased for the Adelbert Stud at Hopkiiisville by its owners Dr M W Williams and Major Cyrus S Iladford As ¬ sistant Quartermaster of the United States Marines MarinesAlbert Albert distinguished himself as a sire in an in ¬ credibly short time after being established at Adel ¬ bert Stud and in 1900 Williams Radford refused an offer of 30000 for him Their judgment was well vindicated by the next crop of yearlings which brought 32000 one of the number selling for 77uO Purchased in the fall of 1S6 his first crop nine or ten twoyearolds placed him a premier stallion in ISO with 05075 to his credit In this crop came Mesmerist the champion twoyearold of his time and winner of 50000 in stakes and purses pursesThen Then followed Herbert winner of 45000 Bonni bert winner of 40000 and holder of the American record for one and oneeighth miles at Brighton Beach New York for a number of years and Hatasoo winner of 20000 a record holder at Sheepshead Bay The list of his winners is ex ¬ tensive and his percentage Is estimated by no less an authority than General Jackson at 05 probably higher than that of any horse in America AmericaDuring During the ten years from 1897 to 1007 he had an average of about twelve yearlings sldpped to New York each season and these sold for 150000 Their combined winnings have been nearly half a million dollars Albert belonged to the No 4 fam ¬ ily and was a noted race horse in England Hi captured the Seatou Delcral Stakes and other im ¬ portant races His sire Albert Victor was a su ¬ perior race horse and brother to George Frederick winner of the English Derby DerbyAlberts Alberts dam Hawthorn Bloom was a great mare being out of Alice Hawthorn dam of Thorn manby winner of the Derby and other celebrated races J II Walsh Stonehouge the distinguished English authority on breeding made a table of the best English matrons and eight of the lirst ten ap ¬ pear in Alberts tabulation tabulationAll All Allcrt crt was bred in England and raced in Eng ¬ land until his fourth year when he was imported to Canada There one of his products was Jardine a celebrated campaigner He was purchased by a Mr Prather of Missouri and remained in that state three or four years but had no opportunity of siring good winners At the death of Mr Prather he was purchased by Camden Chenatilt of Lexington Ky where he remained for one season One result w s Lady Inez one of the greatest mares of her day Mr Camden sold his Interest to a Mr Douglas of Franklin Teun Albert made one or two seasons in Tennessee but It was not until his pur ¬ chase by Williams Radford that he became re ¬ nowned establishing a record which will forever adorn turf history historyThat That he lives in his produce is shown by the stake horses given to the turf by his daughters Jinks and Hatasoo Messrs Williams and Kadford have re ¬ served a nice lot of young Albert mares and as soon as conditions in the racing situation clear up they will continue the noted Adelbert Stud selecting some worthy young horse to succeed their grand old horse AlberK The death of Albert took place on the farm of E B Lindsay in Todd Countv who purchased him from his Ilopkinsville owners two years ago
