PIMLICO DATES FORMALLY APPLIED FOR FORNew New York January 19 Secretary W P Riggs cf the Maryland Jockey Club was a visitor at the Jockey Club yesterday and made a formal applica ¬ tion to the Jockey Club stewards for ollicial sanc ¬ tion for a spring meeting at Pimlico beginning April 20 and ending on May 8 He said that Pimlico did not care to open at an earlier date ibecause the wishes of Baltiuioreans had to he considered and the track itself which is made of clay would not be fit for racing until about the middle of the month Such dates do not fit in witli the tentative schedule for the New York spring meetings previously dis ¬ cussed They left a gap of three open days betweun the closing at Pimlico and the opening at Aqueduct and it is a sure tiling that there will be no Rap It is a known fact that the New York clubs would all appreciate an earlier opening and April 15 the legal opening of racing in Ney York State is the day that is most desired to begin the season of 1010 That is not possible without a conflict with Pim ¬ lico and President Phil J Dwyer of the Brooklyn Jockey Club and the Queens County Jockey Club has already said that unless Pimlico could be induced to take earlier time there would he no racing about New York in the spring either at Aqueduct or Ja ¬ maica maicaShould Should the prediction of Mr Dwyer prove correct the racing season Sn New York will begin May 0 and with such a start the Jockey Club will find the time all too short to satisfy the demands of the different associations associationsMaking Making room for a meeting at Brighton Beach is where the chief diOiculty is had and the present status of the Brighton Association is such that un ¬ less u harmonious arrangement is made it may take its own racing time irrespective of the desires of the Jockey Club ClubWhether Whether or not the Brighton Association would follow such a course the question of dates at this time is one that will take many conferences to prop ¬ erly arrange to the satisfaction of the clubs that are in the field for racing dates
