KENTUCKY RACING COMMISSION AFFAIRS AFFAIRSLouisville Louisville Ky February 8 The present Ken ¬ tucky Racing Commission will go out of office during the coming month and their successors will soon be appointed by Governor Willson The Racing Commission came into existence by an act of the legislature of Kentucky on March 23 190 and very soon thereafter the present commission was apiK nted by Governor Beckham to serve four years according to the construction of the law as regu ¬ lated by this act The present body is composed of J P Chinn chairman of Mercer County E F Clay vicechairman of Bourbon County Milton Young and Louis DCS Coguets of Fayetto County and Charles F Grainger of Jefferson County A B Ronse the secretary is from Kenton County The secretary is elected by the board but the governor really has also appointing power in his case at be indorsed by the commission commissionRight Right now much gossip is going the rounds of turf circles as to probable changes in the commis ¬ sion says the CourierJournal Last night it was said that Charles F Grainger of this city and Louis Des Coguets are anxious to get away from the duties of commissioners and Colonel E F Clay of Bourbon County will decline to serve in the of ¬ fice after March owing to ill health It is rumored that Louisville will have two representatives to fill the places of Messrs Grainger and Des Cognets while J X Camden of Woodford County president of the Kentucky Association will be offered Colony Clays place Milton Young and J P Chinn will be retained if they will accept reappointment is the tip going the rounds and W F Schulte has been recommended to Governor Wilisou as one of Louisvilles representatives on the new commission George J Long would be most acceptable to turf ¬ men and add strength to the body controlling Ken ¬ tucky racing but he is a man of vast business inter ¬ ests and it is not likely he would regard himself in si K sition to accept such an appointment except in a case where turf interests stood in greater jeopardy than they dp in Kentucky today The new commis ¬ sion that will go into office in April unless a mem ¬ ber dies or resigns will hold over as a body until April 1914 a period of four years The report is current that if he accepts the appointment J X Camdeii will be chairman of the new commission and J P Cuiiiti vicechairman The latter at pres ¬ ent holds the position of chairman and has tilled the office since the inception of the commission in March 190i It is probable that the secretary will be called upon to act in a similar capacity with no additional salary for the Kentucky Breeding Bu ¬ reau tiie activities of which are to be revived in the near future
