NOTES OF THE TURF TURFFew Few turfmen know that Kit Chinn once a promi ¬ nent starter and a member of the famous Kentucky family of horsemen married a wealthy California woman and now lives on a splendid ranch near Vallejo Cal CalWilliam William Walker who is spending the winter at bis home in Canada has purchased the threeyearold filly Belle Kingston bv Kingstoii JRcllfield LI from Thomas Patterson of Kast Toronto The filly started eleven times last year won twice and was second twice twice3Iartin 3Iartin Nathanson of Chicago is to servo as racing secretary and handicapper for the Salt Lake City meeting which will run from May 14 to July 4 us previously announced Richard Dwyer will be gen ¬ eral manager and starter and Frank Skinner will serve as presiding judge judgeDavid David Stevenson is a New Yorker who will go in for steeplcchasing extensively during the coming season Two of his promising horses at this time are Duke of Itoanoke and Ontario The latter ran in several races for amateur riders during the past season and gave a fairly good account of him ¬ self Since being put to jumping he lias shown an aptness for that end of the siwrt and Duke oC Roauokc has impressed good judges in his schooling 31 A Silvers of the Lima Jockey Club has writ ¬ ten that he arrived safely in Peru with the thor ¬ oughbreds he bought for the South American market at the FasigTiptotv sale at Lexington last fall The stallion St Avonlcus was purchased at the same time and with the yearlings inside the trying trif successfully A sale of the horses will lx held next month Silvers also wrote that the racing is ex ¬ cellent at Lima with big crowds and good prizes He intends to return to Ncnv York on another buying trip In June when he will attend the thoroughbred sales at Sheepshead Bay
