IN WINTER QUARTERS AT BENNING New York February IS The horses of the Pros pect Stable the name under which G A Brondcr races are wintering at Rcnning tinder the eye of Robert iBoyle The Prospect Stable is made up of Waterway Dacra and Smoker In addition to these three horses IJovle lias old Thistledale under his care He bought the giant Knight of the Thistle gelding last fall when James W Colt sold out and lie is well pleased with his purchase Thistledale never looked better than he is looking this winter and Boyle is confident that the old horse will come hack next season as good as ever Harvey Boyle a Canadian steeplechase rider of considerable skill will pilot the Bronder horses the coming season seasonThe The crosscountry colony at Benning is not as big this winter as it has been In other years There are only alK ut thirty horses at the old Washington track tint the thoroughbred colony will 1 e augmented shortly by William Garths string Mr Garth has liired the old Madden stable which sheltered Sir Martin Fayotte Edward Connaught Ranger and King James two years ago Maddens horses are in Kentucky this winter Frank Purcell is at Benning with five or six horses belonging to Dr J S Tyree Jerry Murphy has a string of live or six and Samuel Ross has six or seven The star of Murphys string Is the fouryear old Ornus filly Hello winner of the Ilarhor Hill Steeplechase at Belmont Park last fall Joseph E Widener talked of buying Bello to race in France this year but lie did not purchase the fillr Bello is developing into a handsome fouryearold
