STEEPLECHASE ASSOCIATION AFFAIRS New York March 2 At a meeting of the execu ¬ tive committee of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association Allan Pinkertons protest of the diBqualitication of his horse Macedonia in the run ¬ ning of the Middlesex Cuy at the Wilted Hunts meeting was sustained It was a matter that has been before the steeplechase authorities ever since last fall and the ruling reverses the action of the stewards of the United Hunts It was at the fall meetiug that Macedonia ridden by Mr Alpers made a mistake at the last fence in the course and Mr Alpers was unseated The horse was caught by F Ambrose Clark and ridden in a winner Protest was lodged on the ground that Mr Alpers had not been disabled by his fall and that he should have re ¬ mounted and finished This protest was sustained by the stewards of the meeting and Parson Kelly ridden by H S Page which finished second was awarded the purse At the time Mr Pinkerton pro ¬ tested the disqualification of his horse and con ¬ tended that Mr Alpers had been disabled hy his fall Later Mr Alpers insisted that he had been disabled by the fall and tiiat he was not able to remount and finish It was on the report of Mr Alpers that the original ruling was reversed Since that race an amendment has heen made in the rules of steeple chasing that prohibits the remounting of a horse by other than his rider in a race unless the rider has been disabled When the Middlesex Cup was run no such rule existed and the action of the stewards in disqualifying Macedonia was criticised The amendment to the rule makes the course of the stewards clear in such cases and removes any chance for a like blunder in the future futurePermission Permission was granted the Maryland Jockey Club to conduct steeplechase races at its meeting over the Pimlico track from April 20 to Mav 7 and the appointment of Frank K Howard and P T Uoche as patrol judges was approved Charles K Harri ¬ son Jr was appointed steward to represent the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association at the Pimlico meeting meetingKilling Killing certificates were granted to the following gentlemen riders David Dows Wentworth C Ba ¬ con August Belmont Jr W G Holloway J Merry man Black Itufus C Finch Antelo Devereux A P Devereux Harry W Smith and Richard Mor ¬ timer Jr JrTrainer Trainer and jockey licenses were granted as fol ¬ lows Trainers W G Wilson Adolph Wheeler J W Pangle Silas Vcitch H Tompkins and Ilenrv Johnson Jockeys W Allen S J Doggett anil John Kcrmath KcrmathSam Sam Doggett expects to ride in South America this year and applied for a license to ride in steeple ¬ chases in case he should desire to take out a license to countryA ride in jumping races In that country A resolution of regret was adopted on the death of Robert Neville NevilleApplications Applications are still coming in for the amateur meetings Yesterday Secretary Bryan of the Hunts Committee received requests for six more days of racing at four different points They come from Richmond Va Philadelphia and Long Ittland The most recent hunt to receive oflielal recognition is the Hemlk Hunt of Remik Va Willis Sharpe Kilmer is master of the hounds of the Keinik Hunt and it Is expected that during the season some amatenr sport will be conducted by the club
