SIR HUGO DERBY WINNER DIES The stallion Sir Hugo recently dropped dead in his box at the Jockey Hall Stud Curragh where he had been standing for the past two seasons By Wisdom out of Manoeuvre he was foaled in 18S and will be remembered as the sensational winner of the Epsom Derby of 1K2 when starting at 40 to 1 he rather luckily defeated that good mare La Fleche by threequarters of a length In the St Leger however La Fleche easily had a couple of lengths the best of him and the Derby was the only race Sir Hugo won that year As a twoyear old he showed fair form and accounted for the Rons Memorial Stakes at Goodwood and the Bos cawen Stakes at Newmarket while at four years he won the only race for which he started the forty Xourth Newmarket Biennial and did not run after ¬ wards At the stud Sir Hugo did not distinguish himself the best of his progeny being Nightshade Free Companion Lord Quex Ugoliuo Tea Cosy Sir Hercules Master Herbert Miss Hugo The Knight Sir Luddo and Sir Bcdlvere
