HOPEFUL OF REVIVAL IN TENNESSEE George C Bennett the wellknown Memphis sports ¬ man who lias been seeking to promote a revival of horse racing in Tennessee expressed the opinion the other day to a horseman of his native town that next year would witness a revival of racing in the states of Tennessee Arkansas and Louisiana Mr Bennett is interested in racing plants in Tennessee and Louisiana and he is not given to making Idle predictions He declares that the people of Mem ¬ phis Nashville New Orleans Hot Springs and Little Rock are thoroughly disgusted with reform which spoils sjsort and costs popular resorts hundreds of thousands of dollars without bringing compensating advantages and that they are determined to make their influence felt feltMemphis Memphis folk of all classes have always wanted racing he says and they are aggrieved because of the shutting Tip of Montgomery Park In the old days Montgomery Iark was a popular wintering place for big stables because of the character of the soil upon which the track is constructed The Mont ¬ gomery Park course never freezes It is possible to gallop horses there all winter and have them ready for early engagements And when there were lots of horses at Montgomery Park to be galloped there were stablemen jockeys exercise boys and grooms to look af tfcr them and they had money to spend in the Memphis shops Montgomery shopsMontgomery Pad has hud the gloomy aspect of an abandoned graveyard since John W Schorr tool Ills stable away last April Mr Schorrs runners were the last to leave the old course after which it was transfomud into a trotting course Now it is sixain being reconstructed for the running horses and pending a revival of racing special Inducements will be held out to owners of thoroughbreds to winter there as of yore
