ENGLAND FLAT RACING SEASON AT HAND Lincolnshire Handicap to Be Run Next Tuesday and the American Delirium Is the Favorite In England the Hat racing season of 1010 begins at Lincoln next Monday The first three days of the week are given up to the Lincoln meeting and the last three to the Liverpool spring meeting The Lincolnshire Handicap at a mjje straight is the chief feature at Lincoln and the Graiid National Steeplechase is the star event at Liverpool Both are races of prime importance and over both ante post betting has been going on merrily for over a month monthFrom From the outset of speculation the German horse Kakadu was the favorite for the Lincoliisliire and held his position firmly until quite recently Others that were frequently and persistently backed throughout the month of February were Desmonds Pride Canonite Fiscal War Duke of Sparta Hay den Arranmore Christmas Daisy Edna in 1Anson Wamba and Perseus The lastnamed inmate of the Whitney stable came in for much backing in the earlier stages of the betting Lately that is since the first of March Mr Whitneys other candidate Delirium was introduced to the betting market and from a starting point of 20 to 1 has been so heavily supported tnat on last Wednesday he was the favorite at 8 to 1 It seams probable at this distance that Deliriums favoritism is due in part at least to stable support His impost is 117 pounds and English critics ami English betting opinion have heretofore rated Perseus at 113 pounds as having the best chance and such support as he received was from the public at large Last year Delirium did not do very well in his early racing but he developed into good form in the autumn and won his last three races in true race horse fashion and if he should win the Lincolnshire would give tlie Whitney stable an auspicious sendoff Next to Delirium in the betting last Wednesday were Des ¬ monds Pride 107 pounds Cindercllo 100 and Ily mettus 107 at 100 to 7 each Duke of Sparta lo Valens 12C and Christmas Daisy 125 at 100 to i each Kings Courtship at 20 to 1 and Temnos at 25 to 1 were hacked outsiders Christinas Daisy won the Cambridgeshire last fall and Valens was second to Bayardo in the St Leger and was one of the best threeyearolds of last year The Lincoln ¬ shire is always a highly interesting and wellcon ¬ tested race and lacks no element of attraction this year Other stake races of good value at Lincoln are the Uatthyany Plate Chaplin Stakes and par ¬ ticularly tiie Brocklesby Stakes for tVyearolds the latter being the first stake race of the year for horses of that age i iBesides Besides the Grand National tlie Liverpool meet ¬ ing will be marked by the decision of such other important events as the Union Jack Stakes for threeyearolds Liverpool Spring Cup Bickerstaffe Stakes for threeyearolds and tlie Molyneux Stakes Sefton Park Plate and Stanley Stakes for twoyear olds It is exuected that the Grand National will IM contested by from twenty to thirty horses and at latest advices Carsey 117 pounds was the favorite at 100 to 0
