CANADIAN COLT FOR 1911 DERBY Toronto Ont March 15 Raymond M Dale of South QuAppelle Assinihoia will ship to England shortly a twoyearold bay colt by Kelston Drowsy to be trained for next years Epsom Derby The colt is Saskatchewanbred and this is the first time a Canadian owner has set himself the highest honor of the racirtg world as his goal Mr Dale has been fortunate in securing for his colt a place in the pretentious training stable of Sam Darling at Bcckhamptou Darling trains for such owners as Lord Rosebery the Duke of Devonshire Captain Greer and Lord Lonsdale and his patrons also in ¬ clude the American owners Charles Carroll James R Keeue and J E Widener Darling has about fifty horses in preparation for this seasons racing racingKelston Kelston the colts sire Is a Longfellow horse whose dam Annette carried the colors of Boyle Littfefield a score of years ago and ran in hurdle races She won the last hurdle race ever run at Woodbine Annettes sire Strachino was in the stud at Woodstock and left a vast amount of good stock in Oxford and the neighboring counties On the dams side the Derby candidate receives the blood of one of the most prepotent of English fami ¬ lies the Bend Or line of Stockwell crossed with a stout American line His pedigree of course does not read as attractively as those of the choice re ¬ sults of the great English and Irish stud farms hut dark horses have won the Derby before this and it is one of the fascinations of the turf that the horse of the little man has always the chance to beat the champion of the greatest and richest breeding establishment
