JAMESTOWN PEOSPECTS EXCELLENT Norfolk Va March in Applications for stable room at Jamestown are coming in so fast that it is doubtful if there will be room for all and a request lias been made to owners not to ship horses tiiat are not in racing condition so as to make sure that there will be room for those that are seasoned Up to the present time something like 200 stalls have been allotted to the following owners ownersJames James McLaughlin Frank Lightfoot K F Car ¬ man G 15 Morris W M 1arrish C C Hall 1 F Tcintile W P Burch M Burton G J Kngel king W S Diffenderfer John White C C Smith son Frank Gardner William and James Shields J L Courtney W Garth 1 M Burch David Dun lott 1 J Miles P M Walker 1 S 1 Randolph J M Goyde I Hammond Barney Schreiber and others of more or less importance importanceFred Fred Gerhardy is canvassing Jacksonville and Tampa and it is more than probable he will have wore applications for stall room than can be ac ¬ commodated It is an assured fact that there will lie plenty of horses at Jamestown to insure a suc ¬ cessful opening openingThat That the meeting will be well attended by regular patrons from New York and other points is positive many having signified their intention of opening the season at Jamestown They look upon it as they did the Washington meeting which started the rac ¬ ing season in the east in former years Two carloads of horses were among those that arrived today and more are en route Four horses from W M Parrishs stables got in today J T Temple came with nine from Tampa A string of twentyfive from the Schorr stable will get in next week from Jacksonville JacksonvilleThe The Pennsylvania Railroad announced tonight that It would run special trains out of New York Phila ¬ delphia and points in Jersey and Delaware to carry the crowds The track is in good condition Hedge Hose in the stable of C C Hall worked three eighths in 35J today and other horses made corre ¬ spondingly fast time timeSuiKrintcndent SuiKrintcndent Jones promises a faster track than last year The big clubhouse has been overhauled and presents a tine appearance at the head of the oiiehundredfootwlde stretch stretchOwing Owing to the large number of applications for stalls Secretary Gerhardy has arranged with the neighboring countrv club to house the overflow in their stable stableJudging Judging by all indications the time is not far dis ¬ tant when Jamestown will o en and close the east ¬ ern racing season as Kenning was wont to do Not only will this historic city present the op ortunity to horsemen to tit their charges for the metropolitan tracks but it will afford New York the pleasure of a little overnight jaunt to witness their favorite sport Taking all things into consideration the fine climate easy accessibility to New York Philadel ¬ phia Baltimore and Washington coupled with its capacity to house a great number of people owing to the abundance of hotels makes the Virginia city the logical successor to Benning BenningThe The class of horses competing this year will lie of inucli higher class than those at previous meetings held at this point
