OPTIMISM IN THE EAST New York March 2S Two weeks from next Fri ¬ day the metropolitan racing season of 110 will be inaugurated at Aqueduct Thence onward through ¬ out the spring summer and fall and until it is nearly lime for the snow to fall again turf enthusi ¬ asts will have six days of weekly racing on the New York tracks The season will open at Aqueduct April 1CJ and close at the same track November 15 15The The Jockev Club ollicials are predicting a splendid season a sort of rejuvenation of the turf from the Might that fell upon it by reason of the passage of the HartAgnew law two seasons ago Court decis ¬ ions have lieen rendered meantime which prescribe the manner In which a wager may lie laid and while the making of books is not permissible an individual may bet as an individual orally if no record of the wager is made madeEspecially Especially interesting this season will be the stecplechasing The association which has in hnd this brand i of the sixirt has decided that public in ¬ terest in the contests through the Held can IK eou sorved only by giving highclass racing and to this end numerous good horses are being schooled for participation in the chases chasesThirty Thirty horses are eligible to start in the Carter Handicap which is at seven furlongs for a purse of 2 r K The Futurity the Brooklyn Handicap the Suburban Handicap the Brighton Handicap the Bel luont Stakes and the Empire City Handicap all have splendid lists of nominations and the outlook for the metropolitan season is bright
