KEENE HORSES GETTING FASTER WORK New York March 28 James Rowe is beginning te work James It Keenes racers for speed lie is never in a hurry with the horses of the vicechair ¬ man of the Jockey Club but yesterday conditions were so tempting at Sheepsheael Bay that each set was permiltcd to ge along just a bit faster than at any time since Iliey have been taking exercise This applieel principally tei the tweiyearolds ami several eif them showed eighths in 12 ami quarters in 25 One eif the impressive colls is the son of Hamburg and Spindrift for which Mr Keene paid 3100 at the yearling sales salesOne One set of lite eilder horses was made up of Mask etle Melisande and Infatuation They went along teigether for a quarter in 28 anel eacli galloped ehee r fnlly Maskette is the same handsome big mare she was last season and appears to have her wonted speed speedHilarious Hilarious Ballot and Sweep were in another set but were eiuly reeiilnd to gallop at a twominute clip Little fear is feH now that Ballot will not cmc back a wonderfully gooel horse as his present training has b beii eii eminently satisfactory Sweep the winner of last years Futurity lias grown and greatly improved in appearance The most advanced set that Rowe has in training is made up e f Suffra ¬ gist Metaphor III Grawmere anel Seneca II They have been training in company and ail alemg have beeii permitted te work just a trifle faster than the others The task yesterday was fiveeighths and they finished the distance easily in from 107 te 1083
