Canadian Jockey Clubs Are Investigating the Mutuel System and Some Arc Likely to Put It Into Practice During Approaching Season. Toronlo.diit.. April £.. Though no announcement has been made and plans are not yet imiplete. it is said that some of the Canadian racing organizations arc inquiring into the details of the operation of the pari inutile! system of betting, with a view to introducins it to their patrons this season. There would, of course, be no hookmakins at any track that adopts the machine method and such action would go to bear out the decterattea made by the clubs tiiat they were not pariiciilarly anxious to re tain the bookmakers on their tracks, but only lo provide some system that afforded a convenient and practical earthed for the speculative partial of the public to transact its business. It will be no surprise if some in the ineetinss are carried on without hookmakins. now that the mechanical system bafl been declared legal. The British Ciumiiia clubs all along took the stand thai they preferred the machine system, but in their case the shortening of the racing period to sewn days will make it tliflicult to secure good fields of horses. Their geographical location requires long ami expensive shipments for only a brief petted of raeins activity.
