MISSOURI MOVEMENT FOR RACING. Million Population Club Takes Initiative in Plan to Bring About Restoration of Sport. St. Louis. Mo.. May 27— The Million Population Club, one of the most energetic of the promotion oiganizMtioiis ,,f this city, enthusiastically went on record cstorday in favor of a plan to replace the ■M Fair Grounds with a national exposition anil fair, one ttf the features of which will be race meet ings of short duration each spring and fall, with the pari uiutoels as the medium of speculation. C. 1". DlHiickc. presith nt of the Million Copulation Club, is tpioted as follows in an Interview: "We hail a line meeting and there was Ml a dissenting eete to the plan. You may sav that wc are in the saddle in earnest, and with the backing of the merchants and press we will have a place that St. Louis will not lie ashamed of. •There is ic. ne.-d of calling the attention of our jioople to the necessity of such a place. With our carnival week oiilj four mouths away, plans for it tire practically rhaetfe. Mr. Lesahert, who has done yeoman work, has an aviation meet on his hands, with practically no place to hold it. The great motor tlri« is of the world are writing daily, offer jng to come here, while we stand by helpless. "The upstate faruicis .-ire crying for a chance to show tl.e |ict»ple of the states metropolis what they are titling. lite states industries and the states it-sources should have proper exploitation. The live stock and karat aWtaui of the state have no incentive to visit as. YVc invite our country cousins in the fall, give lie in a few days" entertainment an. I Iben the confetii throw its run them home. We must tlo more to hold them in our midst: we must gMte them a chani-e to show their products, ami we must show them what the scientific world at firm-is doing. ■•We want to work hand in hand with the Aero Club to provide a permanent aviation field. We want !• piivi.l.- ■ place where the automobile people tilt displa. their wares. IhiIIi in actual operation Mini in buildings. v,. intend to combine automobile exhibits from a racing and manufacturing stand point alike. •As to horse racing, we want our tmsition made clear. We are irrevocably opposed to the resumption of book ma king in any form. We are also opposed to continuous racing. If the old breeders" law had lmt all .we. lunt-t davs of racing at each track. Kinloch ami lielmar would never have lieen built. If they had not lieen erected the Fair Grounds would elill be the property of the leading merchants of the city anil the Aero Club, automobile people and others would not now lie looking tor a home. "I can remember some years ago when we gave short meetings, spring and fall, with pari-mutuels and auctions, that our best citizens were proud to give their sponsorship. Any sport that can tlraw the patronage of practically all the crowned heads of Europe, the presidents of our sister republii-s ami the governor general of Canada, cannot be had of itself, anil I take it that it has lieen the abuses that have lieen permitted to creep into it that have brought it into temporary eclipse. "With these abuses removed 1 will not be afraid to ask the governor, legislature, press and public to give lis two years trial. Mixed harness anil running races, in conjunction with our other events, and merely all incident to them, would. I think, he tol.-rattd for short meetings, spring ami fall. "Vou may retard the movement for a new fair grounds for the purpose of holding a national cxikh sit ion ami annual fair as launched, and our committee will start active work at once. We hope to be partly ready by October."
