• FAVORITES MAKE A SWEEP FIRST CHOICES ACCOUNT FOR ENTIRE CARD AT CHURCHILL DOWNS. Demonstration Follows Disagreement with Official Placing in Handicap — Governor Gray Graduates from Maiden Class. lyouisville. Although the big fields of starters in all the races made crowding at some stage of the running unavoidable, the sport was interesting and the finishes in most cases close and exciting. The crowd surrounded the judges stand and voiced their disapproval, something unusual for this section. Al Mailer won by a good margin, but Jack Parker. Co!b -ipiy and F.arly Tide, fighting it out for second place, caine to the finish so closely aligned that none sav.i the judges were iu a position to determine the result, laey awarded second place to Jack Parker and Colloquy third. Early Tide, which was on the outside, did appear from the left of the judges stand to have lasted for the place, but those on the right of the stand were equally as pirsitive that Jack Parker bad landed in front. apt. James T. Williams kivernor Gray, running in the name of K. N. Smith, emerged from the maiden ranks hy buffeting his way through in the last furlong of the second race iu time to gain a victory. Maginn arrived today from La-tonia and was beat busy a-signing horsemen stable room at the Kenton County track. He was forced to temporal ily turn many applicants away on account of lack of space. He reported that everything was in readiness for the opening and that interest iu the coming meeting exceeds that of former years. He also announced that in races where an entrance fe» is charged the entrance money will be divided fifty per cent, to winner, thirty to second and twentc to third. There will be no favoritism shown. Edward Corrigan will ship has band of racers to Salt Lake City tomorrow and will campaign this summer on the inner-mountain circuit. Jockey Wris-pen will accompany the stable. Trainer Keepe will send some of the J. N. Camden horses Kick to Lexington, where they will ha turned out until fall. Trainer Grater has announced that he will be a positive starter in the La Ionia Derby. J. T". Strode departed tonight for Savannah. Ga.. to done a deal with W. II. Doyle, owner of tic Thumlcrliolt mile track, for the transfer of that plant to Mr. Strode and his associates. Mr. Strode, before his departure, announced that the Savannah track would he used for a thirty days meeting the coming fall, beginning some time in November. This meeting will lie followed bv racing at Tampa for a period of sixty days, and then there will l e a return to Savannah for thirty days in the spring. This will give horsemen patroni/.ing the Strode tracks 120 days of racing the coining winter. Mr. Stride also stated that the purses would l e liberal aad that the beat available officials to he had will supervise the i-onduct of the s|¥ rt.
