GOVERNOR GRAY WINS CINCINNATI TROPHY. Waldos Half-Brother Overcomes Disadvantage to Score Against Best Juveniles in West. Cincinnati. ».. July Z. — Before tin attendance thai tilled the spacious enclosure at Latonia to the crowding point Coventor Gray thoroughly demonstrated his superiority over the pick of tiie western two-year-olds by taking the rich Cincinnati Trophy in game style. He was on the extreme outside of the post and was forced to go around his opponents to win. He ran like a good colt aud came away in the final furlong after mild urging to win by a comfortable margin. LaboM lauded second place from Golden Egg. Governor Grays victory was immense ly popular, sympathy being entertained for his ailing owner on account of the recent attempt to keep the colt from starting on the ground that lie is a gelding. Capt. J. T. Williams, part owner aud trainer of the colt, was cheered when he was assisted into the judges staud after the race to receive the magnificent silver cup that goes to the winner. Todays splendid card furnished spirited sport and was greatly eajoyed by the spectators. Merrick and Madman were battling strenuously iu front in the tilth race when suddenly the Bedwell starter, ridden by W. K n.i pp. fell in a heap, due to his having swerved and struck the heels of iMerrick. Knapp was picked up in a limp condition, but recovered rapidly when conveyed to the Jockeys quarters, and was soon none the worse for his tumble, although he canceled his remaining engagement on Nadzn. The latter scored in the closing dash by the smallest kind of a margin and was lucky to do so, as Herbert. ii Markie M.. tried to encompass bis defeat by a resort to rough riding tactics daring the final drive. After the finish the judges promptly lined Herbert 0 and1 suspended him for three days for all but his contract employer. Had Markie M. won he probably would have beea disqualified. The race was further disappointing in the defeat of Third Kail, the heavily supported favorite, and the elimination of First leep and Stone Street by their beiug practically left at the post. The Mala surprise of the afternoon came Iu the second race, when the frequently disappointing Col-not landed the purse in a sharp drive with La Beine Hindoo, incidentally reducing the former track record by one fifth of a second. Jockey Troxlers claim of foul against the winner was ignored. Governor Gray was the only winning favorite. Pennyroyal, in the opener, and Sinfian, iu the third, were the greatest disappointments. As an aftermath to the fall of Charlie Hill in the last race yesterday anil his subsequent destruction. Ihe following announcement was promulgated today by the judges: "Dr. William Keogli. veterinarian aad paddock judge for the Latonia Jockey Club, reports officially that, in his opinion, the horse Charlie Hill was stimulated preceding the ruutring of the sixth race on July 1. and that said stimulant was largely, if not Wholly, responsible for the horse falling during the running of the race, resulting in his subsequent destruction. This opinion Is concurred iu by the judges, and under the provisions f rule 214. Kay Spence, owner, and the following horses owned by him are warned off the course: Bobbv Cook. Ca rondo] ot. Magic Miss. Yankee Iooh, Molesey. Naillictto. Toll Box. It is also IT COM mended that the license of J. S. Merchant, trainer, be revoked. Signed i Charles P. Price, John B. Dillon. .1 ndges." S. K.
