CHANGE IN STEEPLECHASE RULES. New York. July 5. — By an amendment adopted at a recent meeting of the National Steeplechase uud Hunt Association it will be possible to race three year-olds through the field during the coining meeting at Saratoga. Last winter August Belmont, chairman of the Jockey Club, suggested that the rules be amended so that three-year-olds might start August 1, instead of waiting until October 1. as the rules provided at that time. He answered the argument that the horses would not be sufficiently we hooted by that time with one showing that thi ee-year-olds. even though they were not started until late in the fall, were schooled through the preriona winter, many of them learning to jump at the dose of their two-year-old season. When the amendment was offered, before the opening of the racing weapon, a com prom lae wis reached and the rule was made to read that three-year-olds could be started ou and after September 1. This more recent change in the regulation brings it just where it was originally suggested by Mr. Belmont. The Saratoga Association will make provision for the young jumpers, and there are several stables that have young Jumpers tit and ready now to into the field and give a good account of themselves.
