GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY SOURCES. Cincinnati, o.. July 33. — Among the visitors at Latonia Saturday was" Dr. J. W. Keith, of Sturgeon. Mo., proh.ihl.v. save Barney S hreiher. the most extensive breeder of thoiouglihreds in that state. He owns the young stallion Greenlee, by Greeiian. and among the mares he is now mating to that well-bred aorne are Alice Turner. Maud Wallace. Birdy Stone and Miss Bertie. The latter, the dam of live winners, is a sister to BrhH Gray, one of the greatest ratt mares ever raised in Missouri. Dr. Keith owns tlie old J. D. Patton farm, where Ethel Gray was foaled. Mr. Patton has been dead a Bomber of years, but his widow died only last year. Before her death she exacted a promise from Dr. Keith that Kthel Gray lie kept as a pensioner on the place as long as she lives, ami the Missouri hrocder is carry -ing out Mrs. Pattoas wish. The famous old BUUC is now blind and is past bet breeding days. William Steele, id Horse Haven I arm. Lexington, was a visitor at Latonia Saturday, chiefly to attend the uaddoek sale of horses in training. Mr. Sleele owns Nellie Bly. dam of the sensational till.v Bound the World, ami he has a yearling hay filly, a half sister to W. G. Vankes crack juvenile, by the English-bred horse Monsieur do LOruie. Nellie Blv. now twenty-two years eld, has no suckling th.s year, having been barren last spring. Mr. Steel" mated her this year with Singleton. He says she is one of the liest preserved mares of her age anywhere in the stud. Starter William Murray goes from Latonia on n pleasure trip east through rittshnrg and Philadelphia. He has no engagements in July or August and is going to rest until fall. It is likely he will hi the starter selected for the fall meetings in Kentucky, lull as yet lie lias not closed either at Latonia or at Louisville. Mose tioldlilat l will not try the Canadian circuit this summer. He will real Wine and his other borsea at Latonia during July and August and will go to Louisville lor the fall meeting at Churchill Downs. George P. Brazier lias shipped Tom McCrath and Diction to Churchill Downs and will go home to Memphis lo rest until the time arrives for fall racing /ii the Kentucky circuit. J. c. rental is planning for a winter campaign al Juarez. Eugene Lata will aMp Messenger p.oy and his other horses to Windsor and after the second meeting at thai place he will return to Kentucky for the fall racing at Churchill Downs. Trainer Bryaoa will take onlv Klla Bryaon, of the J. II. Morgan stable, to Windsor, having the other three horses in this string at Latonia. He will only rae ■ the smart lilly at the first meeting at Windsor and then will ship her back to Latonia to rest until tall. Mr. Morgan will send Brj son two yearling* to lie broken at Latonia this summer.
